At Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Jakarta), coach Kim Sang-sik and his team were welcomed by the host country's organizers and supported to complete entry procedures. After that, the Vietnamese team traveled by bus to Bandung, where the team's first 2 matches in the group stage took place.
Talking to reporters at the airport, defender Cao Pendant Quang Vinh said that the whole team is excited about the first tournament being held.
This is a new tournament, held for the first time. We are very excited to participate in this new tournament. The tournament is organized by FIFA, so I hope everything will go well and there will be a lot of support from fans from all countries," Quang Vinh shared.
Assessing the group with Thailand, Philippines and Pakistan, the Vietnamese national team defender said this is not an easy challenge.
“It's a difficult group. They have good players. We will dedicate ourselves to compete for the top spot in the group,” Quang Vinh said.
Regarding the goals at the tournament, Quang Vinh affirmed that the Vietnamese team aims for victory in each match and sets ambitions to compete for the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 championship.
Our expectation is always to win in matches. We want to win the tournament. The whole team is very ambitious, so we will do everything to win the championship," the Vietnamese national team defender said.
According to the schedule, the Vietnamese team will meet the Philippines on September 26 and Thailand on September 29, both at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium. After that, the team will return to Jakarta to play the last group stage match against Pakistan on October 2.
