Based on the latest FIFA rankings, the Vietnamese national team is in the top 100 in the world and belongs to the 3rd seed group at the 2027 Asian Cup finals.
According to the grouping principle of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the 24 teams participating in the tournament will be divided into 4 seed groups based on FIFA rankings before the draw.
Being in the No. 3 seed group helps the Vietnamese team not have to face opponents in the same group right from the group stage. In this group, there are some notable teams such as Thailand, China, Bahrain, Palestine and Tajikistan.
However, the challenge for the Vietnamese team is still very large when the teams in the No. 1 seed group are all top candidates for the championship such as Japan, Iran, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Australia and Uzbekistan. Meanwhile, the No. 2 seed group also gathers many strong teams including Qatar, Iraq, Jordan, UAE, Oman and Syria.
In the No. 4 seed group, some Southeast Asian teams such as Indonesia and Singapore may become potential opponents of the Vietnamese team in the group stage. In addition, this group also includes Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, North Korea and the winning team in the match between Lebanon and Yemen.
Previously, the victory over the Malaysian team in the international matches at the end of March helped the Vietnamese team improve their position in the FIFA rankings and maintain a favorable ranking before the time of determining the seed group. This is considered an important factor to help the team have a certain advantage in the process of preparing for the 2027 Asian Cup finals.
