Honoring outstanding athletes and sports coaches

The glorious Sports program of Vietnam has honored and rewarded outstanding athletes and coaches with high achievements in the past year.

On March 22, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) the Department of Physical Training and Sports and the Vietnam Olympic Committee organized the Vietnam Sports Glory program to honor athletes with outstanding achievements and coaches with athletes competing with high achievements in the past year 2024.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong emphasized: "The Vietnam Sports Glory Program is not only a meaningful event to honor and reward outstanding athletes and coaches, but also an opportunity to review the formation and development of Vietnamese sports over the past 79 years, creating motivation to promote the patriotic emulation movement of the entire industry, striving to complete the important tasks set out in 2025".

At the special event, the Organizing Committee held a ceremony to announce and award the Third Class Labor Medal of the President to athlete Le Van Cong and coach Le Quang Thai (weightlifting for the disabled).

Previously, based on the results of the 2024 National Outstanding Athletes and Coaches Election, this Vietnam Sports Glory Program honored 10 athletes, 5 coaches, 3 sports teams, 5 athletes for the disabled and 3 athletes for the disabled.

Accordingly, 10 outstanding athletes are Trinh Thu Vinh (shooting), Tran Quyet Chien (billiards), Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen (volleyball), Nguyen Thi Huong (canoeing), Pham Thi Hue (rowing), Nguyen Thuy Linh (badminton), Nguyen Thi That (cycling), Ha Thi Linh (boxing) - 351 points; Tran Thi Nhi Yen (athletics), Do Thi Anh Nguyet (archery).

Meanwhile, the 5 outstanding coaches are Mr. Nguyen Tuan Kiet (volleyball), Nguyen Viet Hoa (billiards), Nguyen Dinh Hoang (women's futsal), Luu Van Hoan (canoeing), Tran Quoc Cuong (shooting).

5 disabled athletes honored are Le Van Cong (weightlifting), Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan (weightlifting), Le Tien Dat (swimming), Do Thanh Hai (swimming) and Doan Thu Huyen (chess).

3 outstanding disabled sports coaches are Mr. Le Quang Thai (weightlifting), Nguyen Dang Vien (swimming) and Bui Quang Vu (chess).

In addition, the outstanding sports teams honored are the Vietnam women's volleyball team, the Vietnam women's futsal team and the women's 4x400m relay athletics team.

Along with annual awards, this year, the Organizing Committee coordinated with TikTok to open a portal for fans to vote in 3 categories exclusively on digital platforms. This is the first time an entire sports voting category on digital platforms has been held, with fans directly supporting their idols with votes.

As a result, the most popular athlete is Nguyen Thuy Linh (badminton), the most popular sports team is the Vietnam women's volleyball team and the most popular football player is striker Nguyen Xuan Son.
