Mr. Tran Anh Tu - Chairman of the Board of Directors of VPF said that the application of VAR technology is quite new. There are not many leagues in the world that apply this technology. The idea of V.League applying VAR technology from this season is a bold move by VPF and its partners.
Currently, VPF is waiting for the partner to supply VAR equipment and technology to build a system for V.League and make an assessment, then go to the negotiation stage and have to go through many stages, in which the final stage is to be approved by FIFA before being able to use it in the tournament.
Therefore, VPF hopes that VAR will be applied from the second leg of V.League 2019.
VAR technology has been applied in many major tournaments around the world and has brought clear results. VAR was first tested at the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup, and officially became widely available after the 2018 VCK World Cup.
At the 2018 World Cup, VAR allowed matches to be managed fairly and limited mistakes. In addition, VAR also creates more special and interesting emotions for the audience watching matches where this technology is applied.
Vietnamese players also experienced matches using VAR technology at the 2019 Asian Cup. In the quarter-final match against Japan, the Vietnam National Team also experienced the decisions of referees from VAR technology twice.
V.League has often had serious mistakes from referees in recent years. Many matches have resulted in controversy and ugly images. This has somewhat affected the quality of the tournament. The application of VAR technology is expected to help Vietnamese referees have more support tools for situations that cannot be easily observed.
It is known that in the 2019 season, VPF will continue to closely coordinate with VFF in the work of managing and assigning referees like in the 2018 season.
