In the previous 13 tournaments, VTV Binh Dien Long An has won 2 times in 2007 and 2010. However, for 9 years now, this traditional volleyball team has not reached the final, since the 1-3 defeat to Bangkok Glass in 2017.
2 years ago, VTV Binh Dien Long An had a full force, but they only ranked 4th overall. The reason for this disappointing achievement is partly due to main attacker Tran Thi Thanh Thuy's injury, leading to playing below her ability in many matches.
This year, VTV Binh Dien Long An has prepared early for the VTV9 - Binh Dien International Women's Volleyball Cup 2026, taking place in Tay Ninh from May 15 to 23. The draw results put the team in Group A with Jiangsu (China) Binh Chung Thong Tin and Vietinbank.
To prepare for the tournament, coach Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa and her team actively train physically and tactically. After 2 years, the team's force has changed a lot. Former player Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa has been trusted to lead the team instead of coach Thai Quang Lai.
Before leaving the team, Mr. Thai Quang Lai helped the team win the national championship in 2024, win the Hung Vuong Cup 2024, third place in the Hung Vuong Cup 2025 and runner-up in the AVC Champions League 2025.
Following the success of Mr. Thai Quang Lai, coach Ngoc Hoa helped the team win the national championship in 2025 after winning LPBank Ninh Binh with a score of 3-2. Stepping into 2026, VTV Binh Dien Long An has played many tournaments and achieved many successes.
The team participated in the AVC Champions League 2026 qualifiers in Thailand, won the Hoa Lu Cup in Ninh Binh after winning against Vietinbank 3-2. In addition, the team also competed in the first round of the national volleyball championship and Hung Vuong Cup.
Notably in the first round of the national championship, VTV Binh Dien Long An won 4 matches, lost 3 matches, ranking 3/8. According to coach Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa, one of the weaknesses of the team revealed in the national championship is unstable competitive psychology, sometimes too excited, sometimes depressed.
That makes the athletes not be able to show their full potential. That is the issue that the VTV Binh Dien Long An coaching staff must change at this year's VTV9 - Binh Dien Cup.
Regarding the force, VTV Binh Dien Long An registered 18 athletes to Tay Ninh, including: Nguyen Thi Tra My, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Trinh Huynh Bao Ngoc, Pham Cao Tram Anh, Nguyen Thi Hong Dao, Le Nhu Anh, Vo Thi Kim Thoa, Vo Thi Thao Nguyen, Nguyen Lan Vy, Tran Nguyen Qui Uyen, Nguyen Ngoc My Tien, Lu Thi Phuong, Tao Khanh My, Nguyen Thi Huong Ngo, Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Do Vu Ngoc Anh, Lianet Garcia Anglada, Regla Martinez Ortiz.
This is a team with a good combination of athletes from many generations, with youth, experience and strikers who are at their peak. Having gone through many tournaments since the beginning of the year, coach Ngoc Hoa and the coaching staff are determined to help the team compete successfully in the tournament in Tay Ninh, as the host team.
If she helps the team win the championship, Ngoc Hoa will go down in history when she is crowned as an athlete and coach. According to the schedule, VTV Binh Dien Long An team will have their opening match against Jiangsu team at 8:00 PM on May 15.
