On May 11, Gia Lai Provincial Police initially informed about the passenger car falling into a ravine on National Highway 19, passing through An Khe Pass (Binh Khe commune), killing 1 person and injuring 2 others.
According to initial information, at about 10:55 PM on May 10, a truck with license plate 77H-003. 62 driven by Nguyen Thanh Yen (born 1982, residing in An Khe ward, Gia Lai province) was traveling in the direction from Pleiku to Quy Nhon.

When going down An Khe Pass, the truck suddenly lost its brakes, rushed forward and crashed strongly into the rear of passenger car BKS 50H-059. 48 driven by Pham Thien Tam (born 1998, residing in Ia Lop commune, Dak Lak province), traveling in the same direction in front.
The strong collision caused the passenger car to lose control and plunge into a deep abyss about 30m on National Highway 19.
At the time of the accident, there were 12 people on the passenger car, including the driver and passengers. As a result, Ms. Pham Thi N. (born 1988, residing in Ea Wer commune, Dak Lak province; passenger on the car) died, and 2 others were injured.
Immediately after receiving the news, the functional forces of Gia Lai Provincial Police urgently deployed rescue and relief work.
Lieutenant Colonel Ksor HBơ Khắp - Deputy Director of Gia Lai Provincial Police - was directly present at the scene at night to direct rescue, traffic diversion and ensure security and order in the accident area.
In dark conditions and dangerous terrain, functional forces quickly approached the scene, took the victims out of the deep abyss and transferred them to a medical facility for emergency treatment.
The 12 people on the passenger car included: Ms. Pham Thi N. (born 1988; deceased), Nguyen Thi Xuan Tam (born 1973, residing in Gia Lai province), Pham Thi Ngoc Tram (born 1990, residing in Dak Lak province), Hoa Thi Phuong (born 1991, residing in Dak Lak), Nguyen Duc Nam (born 1977, residing in Da Nang City), Nguyen Ngoc Hien (born 1984, residing in Dak Lak province), Doan Van Anh (born 1970, residing in Da Nang City), Nguyen Duc Thuy (born 1969, residing in Dak Lak province), Nguyen Thi Hoa (born 1961, residing in Dak Lak province), Le Thanh Son (born 1970, residing in Dak Lak province), Pham Thien Tam (born 1998; driver) and 1 man who was taken to Tay Son Medical Center but voluntarily left.
The cause of the accident is still being further investigated and clarified by functional agencies.
