In the semi-final match held on the evening of June 5, No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev defeated Jakub Mensik with a score of 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to participate in the Roland Garros final for the second time. This is also the fourth time the German player has reached the final of a Grand Slam tournament.
The victory over Mensik continues to open up opportunities for Zverev to conquer his first Grand Slam title in his career. Previously, the 29-year-old player had lost in the US Open 2020 final to Dominic Thiem, Roland Garros 2024 to Carlos Alcaraz and the Australian Open 2025 to Jannik Sinner.
In the semi-finals, Mensik caused many difficulties for Zverev with powerful serves and diverse attacking ability. The Czech player even had three break opportunities in the first set but did not take advantage of them successfully. Zverev's experience then took effect at the right time when he won the pivotal game with a score of 5-5 before closing the first set with a 7-5 victory.
In the second set, Zverev completely controlled the long balls and continuously exploited Mensik's forehand weakness to win quickly 6-2. Although Mensik rose up in the third set with a 6-3 victory, the German player still quickly regained control of the game to end the match after four sets.
Zverev's opponent in the championship match is Flavio Cobolli. The Italian player won the right to enter the Grand Slam final for the first time in his career in a special way when Matteo Arnaldi withdrew before the semi-finals due to a virus infection.
According to Arnaldi's sharing, he continuously vomited and could not eat normally from the night before the match. Despite being checked and treated by doctors, his health condition did not improve, forcing the Italian player to retire.
Cobolli said he was very sad that his close friend could not play, but at the same time happy to be in the final of a Grand Slam for the first time.
Since Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic were eliminated early, Zverev is considered a bright candidate for the Roland Garros championship this year. The German player currently owns many major titles such as ATP Finals, Masters 1000 and Olympic gold medals, but still lacks a Grand Slam title in his collection.
The final match between Alexander Zverev and Flavio Cobolli will take place at 8 pm on June 7 (Vietnam time).
