At 8:40 PM on May 17, world oil prices simultaneously increased. At the end of the weekend trading session, WTI oil price was at 101.02 USD/barrel, up 4.35 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 4.20%. Brent oil was at 109.26 USD/barrel, up 3.54 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 3.35%.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the world gasoline and oil market in this operating period is affected by key factors such as: Information about the US and Iran towards a temporary agreement, reducing immediate tensions; some clashes still occur between the US and Iran; the Strait of Hormuz is largely still blockaded; the US Federal Reserve (Fed) may raise interest rates to curb inflation; military conflict between Russia and Ukraine is still taking place... The above factors have caused world finished gasoline and oil prices in recent days to increase and decrease depending on each item.
The average world finished petroleum product price between the price adjustment period on May 7, 2026 and the price adjustment period on May 14, 2026 is: 128.732 USD/barrel of RON92 gasoline used to blend E5RON92 gasoline (down 4.260 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 3.20%); 130.838 USD/barrel of RON95 gasoline (down 4.568 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 3.37%); 146.038 USD/barrel of diesel oil 0.05S (down 7.616 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 4.96%); 687.654 USD/ton of mazut oil 180CST 3.5S (down 25.816 USD/ton, equivalent to a decrease of 3.62%).
The selling prices of popular consumer gasoline and oil items on the market in the price adjustment session on May 17 are as follows:
- E5RON92 gasoline: not higher than 23,134 VND/liter (down 656 VND/liter compared to the current maximum selling price), lower than RON95-III gasoline by 944 VND/liter;
- RON95-III gasoline: not higher than 24,078 VND/liter (down 276 VND/liter compared to the current maximum selling price);
- Diesel oil 0.05S: not higher than 27, 226 VND/liter (down 268 VND/liter compared to the current maximum selling price);
- 180CST 3.5S mazut oil: not higher than 20, 585 VND/kg (down 587 VND/kg compared to the current maximum selling price).
Retail gasoline and oil prices in Vietnam are currently significantly lower than in many neighboring countries sharing a border. The Ministry of Industry and Trade - Ministry of Finance is continuing to closely monitor market developments to announce gasoline and oil prices appropriately, in accordance with directives and promptly propose to the Government and the Prime Minister solutions to stabilize gasoline and oil prices.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will coordinate with functional agencies to inspect and supervise the implementation of responsibilities to ensure gasoline and oil supply to the market by gasoline and oil traders and will strictly handle violations (if any).
Gasoline and oil selling prices of neighboring countries of Vietnam on May 14, 2026:
Regarding gasoline prices: Thailand: 35,896 VND/liter (Government subsidies); Cambodia: 33,798 VND/liter (Government subsidies); Laos: 40,096 VND/liter; China: 35,438 VND/liter (Government price control); Vietnam: 24,078 VND/liter.
Regarding oil prices: Thailand: 33,778 VND/liter (Government subsidies); Cambodia: 34,126 VND/liter; Laos: 44,552 VND/liter; China: 32,306 VND/liter (Government price control); Vietnam: 27,226 VND/liter.
Thus, Vietnam's gasoline and oil prices are currently lower than those of countries sharing a common border.
