The highest price is for large crab with roe, nearly 1 million VND/kg. The price of 2-shell soft-shell crab is over 900,000 VND/kg, but it is not always available.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huan (Ngoc Hien district, Ca Mau) said: Every year, after Tet, crab prices usually increase because traders buy for export on the full moon day of the first lunar month. However, this year, crab prices have increased quite a bit compared to previous years.
Ca Mau has 3 sides bordering the sea, owning a mangrove ecosystem with a total area of over 63,000 hectares, of which the majority of the area is located in the Mui Ca Mau World Biosphere Reserve and Mui Ca Mau National Park. Ca Mau crabs live in the natural environment, under the canopy of mangrove forests, especially in places near the sea such as: Nam Can, Ngoc Hien, Dam Doi.
Since 2023, Ca Mau province has implemented the Project on Sustainable Development of Crab Industry in Ca Mau province until 2030. The goal is to stabilize the crab farming area by 2030 at about 265,000 hectares, with an average yield of 100 kg/ha/year and an output of about 29,150 tons/year.
Currently, the crab farming area of Ca Mau province is over 250,000 hectares (average annual growth of 2.29%), the output is over 24,000 tons (average growth of 5.85%), the value is about 5,000 billion VND/year. Ca Mau crab products are currently exported to many countries such as: USA, China, Laos, Cambodia...
