On January 5, the People's Committee of Ca Mau province announced that the investor of the Ca Mau airport expansion and upgrade project has completed the environmental impact assessment. The project will carry out compensation and site clearance for an area of over 100 hectares in Ward 6 and Tan Thanh Ward, Ca Mau City; 5 organizations and about 740 households will be affected.
Ca Mau province plans to spend more than VND860 billion on a project to clear land for investment and expansion of Ca Mau airport. This work has been almost completed, on schedule to hand over the land to the construction unit.
According to the investor's report, the land area after expansion and upgrading by 2030 is 184.2 hectares with the land use demand of the project invested by ACV under the Ca Mau Airport expansion and upgrading project being 144.65 hectares, including the current land area managed by the Southern Airport Authority of 43.27 hectares.
The area of land in the airport area that must be cleared and leased is 101.38 hectares; the land use demand for projects invested by Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) is 3.8 hectares; the land area of the command post is 2.37 hectares. The land use demand for projects calling for investment is 2.49 hectares, the land demand for local police is 0.28 hectares and the land use demand for military projects is 33 hectares.
Project implementation period 2024 - 2025. In 2024, carry out investment procedures, measure and count land and assets attached to land; develop compensation, support and resettlement plans. In 2025, carry out compensation, support and resettlement; hand over construction site and carry out settlement of completed project investment capital. Total project investment capital is 2,400 billion VND (100% ACV's equity).
The investment goal is to expand and upgrade Ca Mau airport to a capacity of 200,000 to 500,000 passengers/year, expected to meet the capacity of 1 million passengers/year; 1,000 tons of cargo/year, ensuring the operation of A320, A321 aircraft and equivalent; creating momentum for economic, cultural and social development, while ensuring national security and defense of Ca Mau province and the region.
In order for the project to be implemented as planned, as of December 10, 2024, Ca Mau province has implemented land acquisition, compensation, and resettlement support with a total implementation cost of over VND 861 billion for more than 400 affected households in Ward 6 and Tan Thanh Ward, Ca Mau City, with an area of over 105 hectares.
At the conference to remove difficulties and obstacles and promote the development of transport infrastructure in the Mekong Delta region on October 16, 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested relevant ministries, branches and Ca Mau province to make efforts to complete the Ca Mau airport project, allowing planes to take off and land by April 30, 2025.
