Reduced purchasing power
According to reporters at traditional markets, after many days of rapid increase, in recent days, pork prices have shown signs of slowing down but are still anchored at a high level. Lean shoulder meat costs from 120,000 - 135,000 VND/kg; pork belly, pork belly costs 110,000 - 130,000 VND/kg; young ribs, ribs cost 150,000 - 170,000 VND/kg...
According to a trader at a market on Khuc Thua Du Street (Cau Giay, Hanoi), although this price has decreased compared to a few days ago, it is generally still high, causing consumer purchasing power to decrease, and the business situation is also more sluggish. "If people used to buy about 1kg, now they only buy about 7-8 bunches. In the past few days, prices have also decreased slightly but not significantly compared to the increase," said this trader.

Pork is a familiar food in family meals. However, recently, when pork prices have increased rapidly, people have sought an alternative to eating other foods.
"The price of pork is now too high, so my family has to eat more other foods such as chicken, eggs, peanuts, beans... I also hope the state will soon have a policy to stabilize prices, but the food price has increased so much that I go to the market and get dizzy," Ms. Pham Thi Kim Hang (Hoang Mai district, Hanoi) shared.
Forecast of a time of peace
Sharing with Lao Dong, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Duong - Chairman of the Vietnam Livestock Association said that the recent increase in pig prices is unusual but can be explained.
"Usually, the law is that after Tet, it will create a relatively low crisis. In recent years, we have produced well, so the shortage of crises only occurs occasionally, but this year this will not only last but even increase prices. The supply to the market is lacking due to reduced pork heads and hay heads" - Dr. Nguyen Xuan Duong said.
The Chairman of the Vietnam Livestock Association further explained the reason for the sharp decline in Vietnam's pigs is due to epidemics such as ASF and foot-and-mouth disease. Supplies such as breeds, feed, pesticides and many other costs make up high livestock prices, small-scale livestock farmers should not be profitable. In addition, the factor of imported meat and the gradually narrowing of the breeding space are also the reasons for the decline in the pigs.
According to Dr. Nguyen Xuan Duong, the price of live pigs will be high until the end of the second quarter, at around 70,000 VND/kg by the end of this year.
