Assessment and forecast
In the whole year of 2024, Vietnam exported 250,600 tons of pepper of all kinds, with an export turnover of 1.32 billion USD. This is a record high turnover mark.
The increase will continue this year as pepper output decreases and demand far exceeds supply. Currently, supply in the global market is lacking and demand is expected to continue to be stable or increase.
It is forecasted that global pepper output in 2025 will decrease by about 4%, equivalent to 22,000 tons, especially in Vietnam and Brazil. On the other hand, suppliers are gradually paying attention to the Indonesian market as pepper prices in this country have decreased slightly.
According to statistics from the Central Statistical Office of Indonesia (BPS), in December 2024, Indonesia's pepper exports reached 4,673 tons, down 27.5% compared to the previous month but up 2.8 times compared to the same period in 2023.
Indonesia's total pepper export turnover in 2024 will reach 311.3 million USD, a sharp increase of 132.9% in volume and 171.8% in value compared to 2023. These impressive figures contribute to motivating Indonesia to maintain its third position in the list of leading pepper exporters in the world, behind Brazil and Vietnam.
