At the meeting, Deputy Minister Hoang Trung, on behalf of the 50-member delegation of Vietnam, thanked the USGC for taking the time to welcome the working delegation.
According to the Deputy Minister, the main goal of the delegation is to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of agriculture and environment, further promoting bilateral trade in agricultural, forestry and fishery. At the same time, it will expand connections between businesses of both sides, thereby improving purchasing power and importing US agricultural products to Vietnam.
Appreciating the role of the USGC in promoting trade cooperation, Deputy Minister Hoang Trung emphasized that the Council is one of the earliest foreign business organizations to be present in Vietnam.
For his part, the USGC representative affirmed that Vietnam is a market that the USGC has accessed very early. The cooperation between the two sides has been built on the foundation of in-depth research and a long-term commitment to promoting trade.
Sharing at the meeting, Deputy Minister Hoang Trung affirmed that the Vietnamese livestock industry is entering a period of strong development in a modern and sustainable direction. The total number of pigs is currently about 30 million, poultry is over 550 million, and livestock is estimated at about 14 million.
To serve this scale, Vietnam consumes a huge amount of animal feed materials, about 8 billion USD per year, mainly corn, soybeans, wheat and dry grain (DDGS). According to Deputy Minister Hoang Trung, these are all key products of the United States, and the Vietnamese Government is actively perfecting policy mechanisms to create maximum conditions for agricultural trade between the two countries.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that processes related to quarantine and food safety are always closely regulated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
Representing the business side, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Nam - General Director of Khai Anh Binh Thuan Joint Stock Company said that the unit is constantly expanding the livestock feed sector, with an ingredient demand of 20 to 22 million tons per year. In 2024 alone, Khai Anh directly imported about 600,000 tons of corn from the US.
According to Mr. Nam, the quality of American corn has recently had many significant improvements, especially the rate of broken grains during processing has decreased sharply, the color of corn is brighter and more natural.
In order to ensure a stable source of raw materials in the long term, Khai Anh has just signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to purchase about 4.3 million tons of animal feed materials from the US. This is a move that clearly demonstrates goodwill and commitment to sustainable cooperation between Vietnamese enterprises and US partners in the agricultural sector.
