Tay Tuu flower capital is busy preparing for Tet

With less than a month left until the Lunar New Year 2025, flower garden owners in Tay Tuu flower village are urgently taking care of and preparing for harvest.

Flower village revives with brilliant colors

Typhoon Yagi flooded most of the flower gardens in Tay Tuu flower village (Hanoi), causing heavy damage to the garden owners. After three months, the colors in Tay Tuu flower village have revived.

According to Lao Dong reporters, the current price of flowers is still quite cheap and has not fluctuated much. Yellow chrysanthemums are sold for 2,500 - 3,000 VND/flower, gerbera daisies are priced at 2,400 VND/flower, and wall orchids are priced at 4,300 VND/branch (each bunch includes 30 branches).

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyen - garden owner in Tay Tuu flower village - said: "Although we were greatly affected by storm Yagi, we have made efforts to recover quickly to serve consumers. There is only one Tet holiday a year to be able to sell a lot of flowers.

Right after the storm passed, we proactively planted and cared for the flowers so they would bloom on time. For nearly a month now, some short-term flowers have sold quite well, helping us recover our investment. However, the prices are still relatively cheap."

Ms. Quyen shared that this year, her family planted 4 sao (equivalent to 1440 square meters) of chrysanthemums of various types, and the weather was favorable so some types of chrysanthemums could be harvested at the right time.

"It is expected to be harvested on the 25th and 26th of Tet. The price of four-season chrysanthemums ranges from 70,000 - 100,000 VND/50 branches and yellow chrysanthemums from 130,000 - 140,000 VND/50 flowers. Lilies are sold for 200,000 - 250,000 VND/10 branches, and are expected to increase by 100,000 - 150,000 VND closer to Tet. If consumer demand increases this year, farmers in Tay Tuu flower village may have a bumper crop," said Ms. Quyen.

Other garden owners also commented that the selling price is currently lower than last year, but may increase and fluctuate slightly one week before Tet. The reason is that the number of buyers will increase and some other flower growing areas in Hanoi have not recovered yet.

Flower trading is bustling both in traditional markets and online.

At the end of the year, the roads leading to the flower village and the gardens are bustling with buyers and sellers. Especially on the first days of the lunar month and the full moon day, the traditional market is busier than usual. The majority of wholesalers and retailers want to buy directly to assess the quality of the flowers themselves.

In addition to direct shopping, many people have now switched to buying flowers online through “apartment markets”. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu’s family, who owns a small flower garden in Tay Tuu, quickly joined “apartment market” groups to sell flowers.

"Previously, my mother sold directly at the market, so she often had to bargain for very low prices, unable to recover her capital. When I learned about the convenience and many advantages of selling in residential groups, I posted articles selling flowers grown by my family.

Thanks to selling online, my family has less trouble and has more profit when increasing the price compared to wholesale from 5,000 - 10,000 VND depending on the product. In addition, posting flower sales will reach many people everywhere in Hanoi" - Ms. Thu said.

At this time, people in Tay Tuu flower village are busy from early morning to late night to take care of and trim the flowers, to ensure supply for the Lunar New Year market at At Ty 2025.
