At the Conference on Deploying the roadmap for blending biofuels with traditional fuels in the new era, on the morning of March 9, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan emphasized that Vietnam has a roadmap for blending and using biofuels, but in the past week there have been many changes related to the world gasoline and oil market.
Implementing the Government's direction, on November 7, 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Circular 50 stipulating the application of the blending ratio of biofuels with traditional fuels to replace the old roadmap. Regarding the implementation of Circular 50, there is also Directive No. 07 of the Prime Minister dated February 26, 2026 on promoting the production, blending, distribution and use of biofuel.
Deputy Minister Tan said that promoting the use of E5 and E10 bio-gasoline not only helps reduce emissions compared to traditional mineral gasoline, but also contributes to environmental protection, especially promoting the development of the biofuel industry, creating stable output for agricultural production, contributing to reducing dependence on mineral gasoline imports.
According to the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, in the context of potentially volatile world energy supplies due to armed conflicts, E10, E15, E20 or higher gasoline has been widely used in many countries around the world such as the US, Brazil, European countries, China, Thailand... In Vietnam, E5 gasoline is distributed nationwide from 2018 and E10 gasoline is distributed from January to August 2025.
Reality shows that no negative reactions have been recorded regarding the quality of E5 and E10 gasoline to operating performance and adverse effects on vehicle engines" - the Deputy Minister affirmed.
Also according to the Deputy Minister, developing and expanding the use of biofuel is an inevitable trend in the energy transition process in the world. For Vietnam, using biofuel is a solution contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, fulfilling international commitments on climate change, ensuring energy security and diversifying raw material sources.
Because Vietnam has a lot of potential and favorable conditions to develop ethanol production materials, has a system of E100 production plants for many years and has a wide distribution network of gasoline and oil.
According to the roadmap, the Deputy Minister also noted that it is necessary to prepare carefully about ethanol supply sources, mixing and distribution systems, and management and supervision mechanisms to ensure transparency, efficiency and compliance with prescribed technical standards.
Although the roadmap is mandatory from June 1, 2026, in the context of very complex geopolitical conflicts in the world, we need to deploy the use of biofuel as soon as possible. Because early deployment of biofuel will contribute to reducing dependence on mineral gasoline" - Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said.
