On December 23, at the Government headquarters, the National Steering Committee on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing held its 27th meeting to review the tasks assigned by the Prime Minister and the Steering Committee after the 26th meeting.
According to the Steering Committee, currently, the whole country has 79,213 fishing vessels registered and updated on the national fisheries database VNFishbase, reaching 100%.
100% of 3 no fishing vessels, registered vessels, and vessels not qualified to exploit aquatic products have been entered into management data to make public to the authorities and localities monitoring the activities of fishing vessels.
During the week, the authorities inspected and controlled 3,659 fishing vessels leaving the port and 2,551 vessels arriving at the port according to regulations and monitored the output of aquatic products exploited through the port of 9,550 tons on the Electronic Seafood traceability Software System (eCDT).
During the week, the authorities also issued 307 seafood receipts through ports at 51 fishing ports designated to be eligible for confirmation of exploited seafood ingredients; inspected and controlled 10 import records with a volume of 504 tons of seafood.
In particular, in the past week, the authorities continued to strictly control fishing vessels, not allowing more fishing vessels to violate foreign waters; localities resolutely handled previous violations to increase deterrence.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha pointed out that the progress of implementing a number of tasks assigned by the Prime Minister has not changed clearly, especially the handling of violations of fishing vessels previously detained by foreign countries; investigation and punishment of fraudulent origin of fish and sword lots exported to Europe; many localities have not issued policies to convert fishermen's jobs...
The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that it is necessary to thoroughly handle tasks and reports honestly, objectively, informally, and not chase achievements; focus on standardizing data between levels, sectors, and localities on the issues recommended by the EC.
In that spirit, the Deputy Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to accept the opinions of the Steering Committee members to complete the report and send it to the EC before December 31, 2025.
Continue to regularly exchange and maintain close contacts with the EC to promptly provide information upon request, and report to the Government and the Prime Minister on contents beyond their authority.
Continue to preside over and coordinate with ministries and branches to inspect and guide all coastal localities, including fishing vessels, to carefully prepare working content with the EC Inspection Team.
The Deputy Prime Minister assigned specific tasks to each ministry, branch and locality in investigating and strictly handling brokerage networks, organizing fishing vessels/ fishermen to illegally exploit in foreign waters if any; and acts of legalizing records and fraud in the supply chain and shipments with signs of IUU violations.
