On the afternoon of September 11, the Ministry of National Defence said that, in response to the complicated developments of floods across the North, in compliance with orders from superiors, Regiment 916, Division 371 (Air Defense - Air Force) has developed plans to use helicopters to organize rescue and relief.
Of which, 2 helicopters directly participating in the relief are Mi 171 and Mi 17 along with a reserve Mi 7. The group will be divided into two flight crews to participate in search and rescue, air rescue in flooded areas of the localities. At the same time, transport goods and essential food to help flood victims such as instant noodles, drinking water, bread, and life buoys.
After determining the plan to carry out the mission, the helicopter will carry out rescue by hoisting the crane or landing at the site, dropping cargo to transport necessities. Currently, the 916th Air Force Regiment has completed all preparations and is ready to depart for the mission.
The Commander of the 916th Air Force Regiment affirmed that every officer and soldier, especially pilots and flight crew members of the unit, must determine that in any situation, they must overcome all difficulties, hardships, and dangers, and be ready to fly into the flood zone to rescue and aid the people.
Accordingly, the Air Defense - Air Force has dispatched 3 helicopters from Regiment 916 to participate in rescue work for people in flooded areas in Yen Bai and Cao Bang provinces.
Also on the afternoon of September 11, under the order of the Ministry of National Defense, EC-155-B1 aircraft with registration number VN-8621 of the Northern Helicopter Company, Army Corps 18/BQP took off from Gia Lam airport, transporting relief goods such as drinking water, dry food, milk, instant noodles...
The plane was piloted by Lieutenant colonel, pilot Le Hai Dang - Deputy Director of the Company; Captain Hoang Anh Duc, co-pilot; Major professional soldier, air mechanic Ngo Tien Dung, departed from Gia Lam airport at 13:04 on September 11.
The plane landed in Nguyen Binh district, Cao Bang province at 14:08 the same day.
At 14:14, flight VN-8621 took off from Nguyen Binh District Stadium, Cao Bang Province and arrived at Gia Lam Airport at 15:25.
