According to a report by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the 500 days and nights campaign to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains is being actively implemented by provinces and cities in recent times.
The campaign with new methods ignites hope to find information and remains of martyrs; easing the longing of martyrs' relatives for so many years.
Deploying the campaign, local armies deployed to search, repatriate, and take DNA samples of unidentified martyrs' remains nationwide. Police collected DNA from relatives of martyrs. Scientists deciphered information. Experts and veterans provided clues... Even US veterans were moved and volunteered to return to Vietnam to provide information and documents.
The presence of the highest leaders of the Party and the State at the martyrs' remains search points expresses the view that as the country develops, the work of gratitude and repayment of merit must be given more attention.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, as of the end of July 21, the whole country has searched and collected 1,482 sets of martyrs' remains and 7 collective martyrs' graves; cleared 8,462ha of bombs, mines, and explosives, basically completed for the core area of Vi Xuyen; taken samples of 71,491 martyrs' graves with unclear information, collected nearly 250,000 biological samples of relatives, analyzed and synchronized into the population database about 66,000 samples and is continuing to urgently conduct DNA testing for the collected samples.
Along with the 500-day and night peak campaign to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains, from the beginning of July 2026, 34/34 provinces and cities simultaneously started construction and repair of 3,600 houses for children of people who participated in the resistance war and were infected with chemical toxins and are receiving monthly preferential allowances and living in temporary and dilapidated houses.
Many practical gratitude activities have been implemented as the most vivid proof of the sacred responsibility of the entire political system and the entire people to those who sacrificed their blood and bones for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
