Politburo member and President Luong Cuong led the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation to attend the ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, President of the 80th United Nations General Assembly Annalena Baerbock emphasized that this is an opportunity for countries to reaffirm their commitment to the United Nations Charter - a basic document that demonstrates the aspirations, beliefs and hopes of humanity around the world for peace, development and human rights.
Affirming that the United Nations is the only organization that can connect all countries and have global political prestige, Ms. Annalena Baerbock called on member countries to promote cooperation, support the reform of the United Nations to adapt to the new era and strictly fulfill the obligations under the United Nations Charter, unite and take specific actions to address global issues such as poverty, conflict and climate change.
In his speech, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the international community is continuing to face many challenges from endless conflicts, geopolitical competition, climate change, natural disasters, etc., especially as it is gradually moving towards "a multipolar world".
Mr. Guterres emphasized that over the past 80 years, the United Nations has been a foundation for international hope and cooperation, a forum for dialogue between countries to promote peace, human rights, sustainable development and humanitarian action; at the same time, calling on all countries to comply with international law, uphold the United Nations Charter, and cooperate towards peace, justice and progress for all.
Sharing their views with the President of the United Nations General Assembly and the Secretary General of the United Nations, some speakers also said that the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations needs to have clear commitments, leading to practical results; emphasizing the power and spread of technology, especially technologies that can convey false information, leading to online violence.
At the same time, the speakers also praised the role of women in peace negotiations and mediations, saying that it is necessary to continue to improve the role of women in all fields.
