At the invitation of President of the Republic of Chile Gabriel Boric Font, President Luong Cuong paid an official visit to Chile from November 10-12.
On the morning of November 11, local time, at the Presidential Palace, after the solemn official welcoming ceremony, President Luong Cuong had a private meeting and held official talks with President of the Republic of Chile Gabriel Boric Font.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the talks, President Luong Cuong and Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font expressed their delight at the growing relationship between the two countries through maintaining the exchange of high-level visits and contacts, through all channels of the Party, State, National Assembly and localities; effectively implementing existing cooperation mechanisms such as the Free Trade Council and Political Consultation at the Deputy Foreign Minister level.
The two sides acknowledged that economic and trade relations continue to be strengthened in the context of global economic challenges; Chile is Vietnam's fourth largest trading partner in Latin America and Vietnam is Chile's largest trading partner in ASEAN. The two leaders highly appreciated Vietnam's official establishment of the Defense Attache Office in Chile, thereby contributing to further promoting defense cooperation between the two countries in the coming time.
The two sides highly appreciated the close and effective cooperation between the two countries at international organizations and inter-regional forums, especially at the United Nations, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC), ASEAN - Pacific Alliance, etc.
The two sides agreed to continue to focus on promoting cooperation in areas of mutual strength and interest such as free trade, agriculture, sustainable development, renewable energy, science, education, tourism, defense, security, etc.; actively negotiate and sign bilateral cooperation documents to perfect the legal framework for sustainable development of bilateral relations; create favorable conditions for the business communities of the two countries to increase exchanges and business cooperation to increase bilateral trade turnover commensurate with the potential of the two countries. The two leaders agreed to strengthen coordination, cooperation and mutual support at international organizations, multilateral and inter-regional forums.
Sharing the development vision of the two countries, supporting the values of free trade, cooperation for development, mutual benefit and on the basis of potential and room for cooperation, the two leaders agreed to assign the ministries and branches of the two countries to exchange, review, update and consider upgrading the framework of relations in the coming time to create more space for bilateral cooperation, while identifying breakthrough and strategic cooperation priorities.
After the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of the Vietnam-Chile Joint Statement between the two Foreign Ministers, the Memorandum of Understanding on defense cooperation between the two countries' Defense Ministries and cooperation documents in the fields of agriculture, culture, trade promotion...; and held a joint meeting with the press of the two countries and international press.
