The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that at the invitation of President of the Republic of Chile Gabriel Boric Font and President of the Republic of Peru Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Luong Cuong will lead a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to pay an official visit to the Republic of Chile from November 9-12, 2024; an official visit to the Republic of Peru and attend the 2024 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit Week in Lima, Peru from November 12-16, 2024.
High-level activities during the APEC 2024 Summit Week will take place at the Lima Convention Center, Lima, Peru, from November 14-16, 2024.
President Luong Cuong will lead a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the 31st Asia-Pacific Economic Leaders' Meeting (November 15-16, 2024); Dialogue between APEC leaders and guest leaders (morning of November 15, 2024); Lunch - Dialogue between APEC leaders and the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) and deliver a speech at the APEC Business Summit (November 14, 2024).
This is the first major foreign activity of the President in his new position, bilateral contacts will contribute to building the image and establishing good relations with leaders of other countries. The working trip contributes to highlighting Vietnam's commitment and contributions to APEC in the context of Vietnam hosting APEC Year 2027.
The trip also strongly conveyed the message of a Vietnam that is proactively and actively integrating comprehensively and deeply into the international community and raising the level of multilateral diplomacy; contributing to promoting peace, cooperation and economic connectivity in the region; promoting the country's position and image of stability, positive economic growth after the pandemic and attracting resources to serve domestic socio-economic development.
The year 2024 is of great significance, marking the 35th anniversary of APEC's founding (1989-2024), an opportunity to review and evaluate the results and determine the direction of cooperation for the new period.
With the theme “Empowerment. Inclusion. Growth”, host Peru promotes three main priorities: (i) Trade and investment for inclusive and connected growth; (ii) Innovation and digitalization to promote the transition from the informal economy to the formal and global economy; (iii) Sustainable growth for self-reliant development.
Vietnam and Peru established diplomatic relations on November 14, 1994. Currently, the Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil is also in charge of Peru. In August 2013, the Peruvian Government decided to open an Embassy in Hanoi headed by a Charge d'Affaires. In December 2014, the Peruvian Government decided to appoint the first Permanent Ambassador to Vietnam.
Vietnam and Chile established diplomatic relations on March 25, 1971 and established a Comprehensive Partnership in May 2007 during General Secretary Nong Duc Manh's visit to Chile.
