On April 20, the People's Committee of Trieu Phong district (Quang Tri province) confirmed that it had just proposed the People's Committee of Quang Tri province to consider adjusting the names of commune-level administrative units after the arrangement of Trieu Phong district.
Mr. Phan Van Linh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Trieu Phong district said that, implementing the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, Trieu Phong district has organized a public consultation on the project to reorganize administrative units at the provincial and commune levels.
According to the project, after arranging Trieu Phong district, the remaining 5 communes with the following name: Trieu Phong 1 (merging Trieu Thanh, Trieu Thuong and Ai Tu towns); Trieu Phong 2 (merging Trieu Ai, Trieu Giang and Trieu Long); Trieu Phong 3 (merged with Trieu Do, Trieu Thuan, Trieu Hoa and Trieu Dai); Trieu Phong 4 (merging Trieu Co, Trieu Trung and Trieu Tai); Trieu Phong 5 (merged with Trieu Trach, Trieu Phuoc and Trieu Tan communes).
Since April 18, communes and towns in Trieu Phong district have been collecting voters' opinions, the majority of voters agree with the project to reorganize administrative units at the provincial and commune levels. However, about the names of commune-level administrative units after the merger, voters have opinions.
Therefore, the Standing Committee of the Trieu Phong District Party Committee held a meeting to discuss, consider and agree on the proposal of the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Home Affairs to consider adjusting the names of commune-level administrative units after the arrangement.
Accordingly, renaming the commune after arranging Trieu Phong 1 to Trieu Phong and Trieu Phong 2 to Ai Tu; Trieu Phong 3 into Trieu Binh; Zhao Feng 4 into Trieu Co; Zhao Feng 5 citadel Cua Viet.
The Standing Committee of the Trieu Phong District Party Committee has agreed to choose 5 new commune names and proposed to adjust them because the new names are closely linked to the history and culture of the locality.
For example, the new name to replace Trieu Phong 2 commune is Ai Tu, which was formed under the reign of King Nguyen Hoang at the end of the 16th century. When Nguyen Hoang was sent by King Le to Thuan Hoa citadel (in 1558), he chose Ai Tu land to establish a palace. This was the first capital of the Nguyen Dynasty in Dang In (from 1558 to 1570).
Similarly, the name of Trieu Co commune is proposed to replace the old name, Trieu Phong 4 commune. On August 17, 1950 the Inter-zone IV Administrative Resistance Committee issued a Resolution on merging 14 communes of Trieu Phong district into 10 large communes and taking the name Trieu Co commune...
Mr. Ha Sy Dong - Acting Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province - said that he was very grateful that Trieu Phong district promptly grasped the thoughts and recommendations of voters to create consensus.
"The People's Committee of Quang Tri province basically agrees with the proposal of the People's Committee of Trieu Phong district, and requests the locality to focus on propaganda and mobilizing people to create consensus, ensuring that the collection of voters' opinions is completed according to the prescribed time frame" - Mr. Ha Sy Dong said.
