Speaking at the discussion session, Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Petitions and Supervision Le Thi Nga acknowledged that the past term had a very special context.
At the beginning of the term, there were nearly 2 years affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, "there was a time when it seemed like we could not overcome it". But under the leadership of the Party, the drastic direction of the Government, we overcame that period.
At the meeting, Ms. Le Thi Nga said that the issue of food safety and hygiene has become complicated in the past term, especially in the last two years.
According to the Standing Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Petitions and Supervision, many serious cases have been discovered such as fake functional foods, fake beef, fake cooking oil and violations at Ha Long Canned Food Joint Stock Company. Most recently, the case of bringing pork infected with African cholera into the semi-boarding kitchen in Hanoi.
I propose that the Government conduct a nationwide general inspection of food safety to assess the current situation and have drastic solutions to ensure safety for people when anxiety is increasing" - Standing Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Petitions and Supervision Le Thi Nga said.
In fact, food safety violation cases in the past have been complicated, including the situation of bringing unsafe food into schools, collective kitchens and violations related to management.
On March 17, the Economic Police Department of Hanoi City Police inspected a slaughterhouse in Van Phuc, discovering that slaughterhouse owner Nguyen Thi Hien slaughtered pigs infected with African cholera and colluded with a number of quarantine officers to ignore the control process.
The investigating agency determined that from the beginning of 2026 to now, this group has consumed about 3,600 infected pigs, equivalent to nearly 300 tons of meat, through wholesale markets, people's markets and supplied to a food business to bring to schools.
