At the invitation of Politburo member and President Luong Cuong, Cambodian King Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneat Norodom Sihamoni arrived in Hanoi, beginning a State visit to Vietnam from November 28-29.
During the visit, on the afternoon of November 28, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam met with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni; President Luong Cuong chaired the welcoming ceremony and held talks with King Norodom Sihamoni at the Presidential Palace to assess the results of cooperation between the two countries in the past time and propose directions for cooperation in the future; Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with the Cambodian King at the Government headquarters; Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with the Cambodian King at the National Assembly House.
King Norodom Sihamoni held talks and meetings with all the highest-ranking leaders of Vietnam, thereby contributing to deepening the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship under the motto "Good neighbors, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability".
During his 20-year reign, King Norodom Sihamoni has visited Vietnam three times in 2006, 2012 and 2018. This is the King's fourth visit to Vietnam, a testament to the warm, close friendship between King Norodom Sihamoni personally, the leaders and people of Cambodia and the leaders and people of Vietnam.
On June 24, 1967, Vietnam and Cambodia officially established diplomatic relations. Since then, the friendly relationship between the two countries has been continuously nurtured and developed over time.
In 2005, the two countries' senior leaders agreed to set a new motto for developing bilateral relations: "Good neighbors, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability". With that orientation, the relationship between the two countries has been continuously consolidated and developed in all fields.
This visit by King Norodom Sihamoni was made right after the State visit to Cambodia by President To Lam, now General Secretary, in July 2024 and then the official visit to Cambodia by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man from November 21-24, showing that high-level contacts between the two countries are conducted regularly and continuously to strengthen solidarity, trust, mutual understanding, and bring bilateral cooperation to an increasingly deeper, more substantial and effective level.
Along with that, cooperation in the field of security and defense between the two countries has increasingly deepened, becoming a solid pillar of cooperation, contributing significantly to maintaining stability, security, politics and society in each country. Important bilateral cooperation mechanisms such as the Joint Committee on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technical Cooperation; Conference on Cooperation and Development of Border Provinces... are held regularly and continue to be effective. The two countries also have multilateral cooperation mechanisms in which both sides participate, and at the same time closely coordinate with each other at international, regional and sub-regional forums, especially the United Nations and ASEAN... contributing to enhancing the prestige and position of each country in the region and in the world. On the basis of good political relations, the two sides have proactively and actively promoted bilateral cooperation in practical and effective ways. Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Cambodia has made remarkable progress, growing by an average of more than 20% in the 2015-2022 period and exceeding 10 billion USD in 2022.
