At the invitation of Politburo member and President Luong Cuong, Cambodian King Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneat Norodom Sihamoni paid a state visit to Vietnam from November 28-29.

The visit of Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni took place in the context of the continued development of Vietnam - Cambodia political relations. The two countries' senior leaders maintained visits and contacts. The cooperation between the two countries' ministries, branches and localities with practical cooperation mechanisms has been implemented more and more effectively, deepening the cooperation in all fields.

Cooperation in the fields of security and defense between the two countries has been strengthened. Both sides always affirm that they will not allow any hostile forces to use their territory to harm the security of the other country.

Most recently, during his working trip to Cambodia, on the afternoon of November 23, at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni. VNA reported that King Norodom Sihamoni and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man were pleased to see that the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia is constantly developing well.

King Norodom Sihamoni affirmed that historical tradition has shown that the late King Norodom Sihanouk and President Ho Chi Minh laid the foundation and built a solid bridge of friendship for the good relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia. Today, President of the Senate Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet and other senior leaders of Cambodia are the ones who continue and promote that traditional cooperative, solidarity and friendship relationship.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized that over the past time, the King and Royal Family of Cambodia have always had warm feelings and made great contributions to the development of the relationship between the two countries. The leaders of the Party, State and people of Vietnam always appreciate the deep feelings that the King and Queen Mother have for Vietnam and wish to welcome the King and Queen Mother to visit Vietnam.

Vietnam and Cambodia established diplomatic relations on June 24, 1967. In 2005, the two countries' senior leaders agreed to set a new motto in developing bilateral relations: good neighbors, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability. With that orientation, the relationship between the two countries has been continuously consolidated and developed in all fields, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries, actively contributing to peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world.

According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, economic, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia has developed rapidly and achieved encouraging results. In 2024, Vietnam-Cambodia trade turnover reached 8.3 billion USD in the first 10 months of the year, an increase of 17.5% over the same period in 2023. The two sides set a target of 20 billion USD in bilateral trade turnover in the coming time.

Vietnam is currently Cambodia's third largest trading partner (after China and the US) and Cambodia's largest trading partner in ASEAN.

To date, Vietnam has 205 valid investment projects in Cambodia with a total registered capital of 2.94 billion USD, ranking first in ASEAN and in the Top 5 countries with the largest direct investment in Cambodia, and second among 79 countries and territories with investments from Vietnam. Investment and business activities of Vietnamese enterprises in Cambodia have been actively contributing to social security and prosperous development of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Other areas of cooperation in education - training, transportation, culture, health, telecommunications... are also of interest and promoted.
