Floods in the Central region cause estimated damage of over VND9,000 billion

The initial preliminary estimate of economic damage caused by floods in the Central provinces is about 9,035 billion VND.

On the afternoon of November 23, the Office of the National Civil Defense Steering Committee issued information related to the work of overcoming the consequences of rain and floods in the Central region.

Regarding direction, on November 23, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired an online meeting with ministries, branches, localities and relevant agencies on focusing all resources on overcoming the consequences of floods; restoring production and business, and stabilizing people's lives in the South Central region.

The Ministry of National Defense issued Official Dispatch No. 5727/CD-BQP dated November 23, directing relevant agencies and units in the South Central region to focus all resources to overcome the consequences, restore production and business, and stabilize people's lives after floods.

Previously, on November 22, Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh visited and presented gifts to people affected by floods in Tuy An Tay and Dong Xuan communes/Dak Lak. Politburo member, General Phan Van Giang - Minister of National Defense inspected the work of overcoming the consequences of floods in Gia Lai province.

The report said that as of 5:00 p.m. on November 23, floods had killed 91 people and left 11 people missing.

Floods caused 1,154 houses to be damaged; 185,733 houses were flooded; 80,884 hectares of rice and crops were affected; 117,067 hectares of perennial crops were damaged; 3,234,753 livestock and poultry died or were swept away; 1,157 hectares of seafood were damaged.

Regarding traffic, National Highway 1 has opened to traffic; there are still 19 locations on 4 national highways that have been partially eroded, causing congestion. The railway line from Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City has not yet resumed operations.

Due to the impact of floods, there are still 258,045 customers without power; 68/301 communes and wards have lost connection to the specialized data transmission network due to power outage; 371 BTS stations have lost connection (including Dak Lak 251 stations, Khanh Hoa 120 stations).

The report of the Office of the National Civil Defense Steering Committee said that the initial preliminary damage to the economy is estimated at: VND 9,035 billion (Quang Ngai VND 650 billion, Gia Lai VND 1,000 billion, Dak Lak VND 5,330 billion, Khanh Hoa VND 1,000 billion, Lam Dong VND 1,055 billion). Localities are continuing to update data on damage.

During the day, the Army mobilized: 44,848 officers and soldiers (CBCS) (31,850 soldiers, 12,998 militia and self-defense forces) and 1,785 vehicles of all kinds (1,508 cars, 272 boats, 65 special vehicles, 6 aircraft, 12 flycams, 10 pumps, 6 generators, 3 service dogs, 353 other vehicles) to help people in Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong provinces overcome the consequences of floods.

The forces cleaned and sanitized 1,940 houses, 182 schools, 96 health stations, 45 government headquarters, 2 cultural houses, 106km of roads, built 20m of fence, transported 38.5 tons of food and necessities.

The authorities supported the return of 2,323 households/8,725 people to their homes, stabilizing their lives; examining and treating 220 people; supporting 20.7 billion VND, 20 tons of dry food, 410 boxes of instant noodles, 50 boxes of drinking water, 50 m3 of soft drinks, 7,000 sets of clothes, 7,000 scarves, 260 life jackets, 10 tons of disinfectants.
