At the talks, General Secretary and President To Lam requested the two sides to strengthen coordination, review, and effectively implement the Action Program to implement the Vietnam - New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the period 2025-2030.
The two sides agreed to make defense and security cooperation more substantive and effective, especially maritime security cooperation, naval vessel exchange, expanding cooperation in cybersecurity and military medicine; study establishing a direct communication mechanism or hotline on transnational crime cases; accelerate negotiations towards establishing a mechanism and signing bilateral cooperation agreements.
Affirming that the economies of the two countries have high complementarity, the two sides emphasized that trade and investment cooperation is a very important pillar of cooperation, with great potential, especially in agricultural, aquatic and seafood trade; the two sides agreed to expand the scale of economic and trade cooperation, effectively utilize free trade agreements that the two countries jointly participate in such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the ASEAN - Australia - New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA); promote trade facilitation, open markets for the strengths of the two countries' agricultural products, reduce technical barriers, strengthen exchanges on quality standards, quarantine, food safety and electronic certification, and create conditions for businesses of the two countries to invest in each other's markets.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon affirmed that New Zealand will continue to strongly promote cooperation in the field of trade and investment, thereby creating favorable conditions for businesses of the two countries to have opportunities to cooperate and invest in each other.
Appreciating the practical and effective support of the Government of New Zealand for Vietnam over the years, especially in the fields of agriculture and environment, General Secretary and President To Lam expressed his desire to continue to accompany in building green agriculture, low emissions, adapting to climate change, ensuring food security and increasing added value for agricultural products; building typical cooperation models on sustainable agriculture.
Sharing about the common national development goals of both countries based on science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts in building policies and implementing solutions to bring artificial intelligence (AI) into protecting data sovereignty and national digital sovereignty; affirmed that he will continue to share experiences in building a digital government, an ecosystem serving science and technology development, and models of innovation centers and startup support.
The two sides agreed to make education, tourism, connectivity and people-to-people exchanges an important driving force of bilateral relations. Accordingly, the two sides will expand cooperation in training high-quality human resources with qualifications, expertise and skills to meet the new development stage; promote airlines of the two countries to soon open direct flights to narrow the geographical distance between the two countries, contributing to opening up more opportunities for people-to-people exchanges and new, more substantive and comprehensive cooperation.
