At a regular press conference on the afternoon of October 31, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Doan Khac Viet answered questions from the press about the information that China is completing the infrastructure to deploy radar on Tri Ton Island, part of Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago.
The Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized: "Vietnam is extremely concerned about this information and strongly opposes all activities that violate Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago. Vietnam is determined to protect Vietnam's sovereignty by peaceful measures in accordance with international law, especially the United Nations Charter and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)."
Also at the press conference, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Doan Khac Viet answered questions from the press about the incident in which a Vietnamese fishing boat was chased, attacked, and had its property confiscated by a Chinese ship at the end of September, in which the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs voiced its protest but China showed a video denying the information about injuries to Vietnamese fishermen.
"The Hoang Sa archipelago belongs to Vietnam's sovereignty. This stance has been consistently affirmed by Vietnam many times. The Chinese Coast Guard's illegal arrest of Vietnamese fishing vessels and fishermen in the Hoang Sa archipelago is a serious violation of Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago, violating the legal and legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese fishermen. Vietnam resolutely protests and demands that China fully respect Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago, immediately release all illegally arrested Vietnamese fishing vessels and fishermen, adequately compensate for damages and stop and do not repeat acts of harassment and illegal arrest of Vietnamese fishing vessels and fishermen in Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago," Deputy Spokesperson Doan Khac Viet emphasized.
