On the afternoon of July 30, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang and the working delegation directly went to the scene of the mine accident that killed 5 workers at Hon Gai Coal Company - TKV.
Participating in the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister were Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Mr. Cao Tuong Huy, Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, leaders of the TKV Group and related units.
After listening to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, leaders of the TKV Group and Hon Gai Coal Company report on the incident, rescue efforts, and condolence work, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang shared with the families of the victims, acknowledged the efforts in rescue work by the coal industry and Quang Ninh province, and the application of state and enterprise policies to maximally support the families of the victims.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested Quang Ninh province and related units to continue strictly implementing the Prime Minister's directives, especially in investigating the cause, promptly overcoming the consequences of the accident, clarifying the responsibilities of related organizations and individuals, and strictly handling violations if any.
The TKV Group, Hon Gai Coal Company, and related units should strengthen inspection and supervision, promptly detect and handle violations of labor safety regulations in coal mining activities, and prevent similar incidents from occurring.
Quang Ninh province and the coal industry should continue to coordinate to implement more effective solutions to improve labor safety during production; closely monitor weather changes and climate change to have effective preventive measures.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Council emphasized: Through this incident, the local authorities will continue to direct and closely coordinate with TKV to draw lessons for labor safety in coal mining, to prevent similar unfortunate incidents. Along with quickly overcoming the incident, the TKV Group and Hon Gai Coal Company will continue to do well in ideological work for workers, so that they can feel secure in production, and continue to enhance mining capacity to meet the coal demand for the economy.
At the inspection, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang provided support and encouragement to the families of the deceased workers.
Earlier, at 22:10 on July 29, 2024, at Hon Gai Coal Company - TKV (Ha Long City), a mine accident occurred, killing 5 workers. The initial cause was determined to be a sudden collapse of coal and rock in the mine.
Immediately after receiving the information, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council directed and assigned the Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, along with leaders of departments, sectors, and local authorities to be present at the scene to coordinate with the Chairman of the Board of Members of the Group, the General Director of the Group to direct Hon Gai Coal Company and related units to implement rescue measures.
By 5:28 on July 30, all 5 deceased workers had been brought out of the mine.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee directed the functional departments and TKV to support the families of the deceased workers to the maximum extent; focus on investigating and soon clarifying the cause.
Initially, Quang Ninh province supports 25 million VND per deceased person. The Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group supports 20 million VND per deceased person; the Vietnam Coal - Mineral Industries Trade Union supports 20 million VND per deceased person. Hon Gai Coal Company handles the regimes according to state regulations; arranges funeral expenses for workers and supports the workers' families with an initial amount of 100 million VND per family.
