On April 2, US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper and the working delegation were present at the scene of the cluster bomb detonation carried out by PeaceTrees Vietnam in Huong Linh commune, Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province.
Accompanying the Ambassador was a working delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam led by Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet. Here, the delegation listened to a report on the process of surveying, clearing bombs and mines and supporting livelihoods for people deployed by non-governmental organizations with funding from the US Government.
According to a representative of PeaceTrees Vietnam, the programs to destroy remaining explosives after the war have contributed to ensuring safety for the community, while also clearing land to serve local socio-economic development.
On the same day, the working group also went to the scene to search for missing US soldiers during the war (MIA) in Cuoc village, Huong Phung commune. This activity was coordinated by many US experts, diplomats and local people.
This is one of the symbols of effective cooperation between Vietnam and the US in efforts to overcome the consequences of war, towards a future of peace and sustainable reconciliation.
