On April 29, the People's Council of Dong Nai province, term X, 2021 - 2026, held the 27th Session (special session) to vote in favor of the policy of arranging commune-level administrative units in Dong Nai province in 2025.

After the arrangement, Dong Nai province has 55 commune-level administrative units, reducing 104 commune-level administrative units.
Regarding communes, after the arrangement, Tri An commune has the largest area of 660.46 km2; Binh Minh commune has the smallest area of 36.68 km2; Xuan Loc commune has the largest population of 104,304 people; Nam Cat Tien commune has at least 15,922 people.
Regarding wards, Binh Loc ward has the largest area of 77.21 km2; Tam Hiep ward has the smallest area of 10.81 km2; Tran Bien ward has the largest population of 197,060 people and Xuan Lap ward has the least population of 18,947 people.
The whole province has 2 wards and 3 communes that do not implement the arrangement because they have ensured standards on natural area and population size or have isolated locations, making it difficult to organize traffic connections with adjacent administrative units.
The session also voted in favor of the policy of merging Binh Phuoc province into Dong Nai province.
According to the submission of the People's Committee of Dong Nai province on the results of the voter consultation, in Binh Phuoc province, 97% of voters agreed with the policy of merging administrative units with Dong Nai province; Dong Nai province has 95% of voters agreed with the policy of merging administrative units with Binh Phuoc province.
The name after the arrangement is Dong Nai province, the Administrative - Political Center is located in Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province (after the arrangement is the new Tran Bien ward, Dong Nai province).
The new Dong Nai province after the arrangement and merger has an area of over 12,700 km2, a population of over 4.2 million people and 95 commune-level administrative units.
