On the occasion of attending the 8th GMS, 10th ACMECS and 11th CLMV Conferences in Kunming (China), on the afternoon of November 6, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a bilateral meeting with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two Prime Ministers took the time to review bilateral cooperation in recent times, emphasizing the close coordination of the two governments and the efforts of ministries, departments and branches at the central and local levels of the two countries to realize the results of high-level exchanges and agreements, especially the results of the state visit to Laos by President To Lam in July 2024 and the meeting of the two Politburoes in September 2024. At the same time, they actively and effectively implemented high-level agreements, making the best preparations for the 47th meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of the two countries in the coming time.
The two sides also agreed to deepen the pillar of defense and security cooperation, ensuring a solid foundation for each other; continue to maintain security, and build a peaceful, friendly, stable, and sustainably developing Vietnam-Laos border.
The two Prime Ministers paid special attention and agreed to continue to create breakthroughs in economic and trade cooperation. Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone affirmed that Laos always attaches importance to and prioritizes Vietnamese enterprises investing and doing business in Laos, especially in strategic areas such as infrastructure, energy, high technology, transport connectivity, etc.; wishes to promote connectivity between the two economies of Laos and Vietnam, and cooperate to improve the legal system to facilitate trade and investment activities.
Appreciating the efforts of both sides in launching a number of key projects in recent times, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that both sides maintain positive momentum and resolve difficulties and obstacles of other key projects in the coming time in accordance with the direction of the two Politburoes. The Prime Minister himself will pay close attention and urge relevant agencies of Vietnam to actively and closely coordinate with the Lao side.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam will continue to prioritize supporting Laos in improving the quality of human resources, in order to help Laos adapt to development needs in the new period, especially in training and fostering strategic-level officials and managers at all levels.
The two Prime Ministers agreed to more effectively implement cultural cooperation, further promote the traditional Vietnam-Laos relationship among the people, especially the young generation of the two countries; agreed to continue to enhance trust exchange, timely information sharing, close coordination, and mutual support in international and regional issues of mutual concern.
In response to Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone's invitation to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to officially visit Laos and co-chair the 47th Intergovernmental Committee Meeting in early 2025 in Laos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh happily accepted the invitation and assigned relevant authorities to make specific arrangements.
