On the morning of May 7, Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and the high-level Vietnamese delegation left Hanoi capital to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines from May 7 to 8 at the invitation of the President of the Republic of the Philippines Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr, ASEAN Chairman in 2026.
The official delegation accompanying the Prime Minister included: Minister, Chairman of the Government Office Dang Xuan Phong; Deputy Minister of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Gau; Deputy Minister of Public Security, Senior Lieutenant General Le Van Tuyen; Deputy Chairman of the Government Office Don Tuan Phong; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Head of ASEAN Vietnam SOM Dang Hoang Giang; Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang; Assistant to the Prime Minister Tran Anh Tuan. The delegation also included Vietnamese Ambassador to the Philippines Lai Thai Binh; Ambassador, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to ASEAN Ton Thi Ngoc Huong.
This is the first foreign working trip of Prime Minister Le Minh Hung in his position as head of the new Government and also the first multilateral conference that the Prime Minister directly attended.
The fact that Prime Minister Le Minh Hung led the high-level Vietnamese delegation to attend the conference strongly demonstrates that Vietnam continues to consistently implement the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization, and diversification of foreign relations in the spirit of the 14th Party Congress; and at the same time affirms that ASEAN continues to be a top strategic priority in Vietnam's overall foreign policy. This is also a clear message about Vietnam's commitment to the ASEAN Community building process, with the spirit of proactiveness, activeness, responsibility and practical and effective contribution to the common work of the Association.
