A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the afternoon of May 4 said: At the invitation of the President of the Republic of the Philippines Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr - ASEAN Chairman in 2026, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Le Minh Hung will lead the high-level Vietnamese delegation to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines from May 7 to 8.
The 48th ASEAN Summit was held in Cebu, Philippines from May 7-8 with the participation of leaders of ASEAN countries and the ASEAN Secretary-General.
The conference takes place in the context of the world and regional situation continuing to fluctuate rapidly, complicatedly, and unpredictably; fierce geostrategic competition, hotspots, especially escalation in the Middle East, increasing instability, causing direct and multidimensional consequences for the global economy.
Despite facing many challenges, ASEAN continues to strengthen the Community on the basis of the achievements of the 2015-2025 period, starting to implement the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and Strategic Plans, towards a resilient, dynamic, creative and people-centered ASEAN. ASEAN maintains solidarity and central role, but also faces many challenges both from within and outside.
The 48th ASEAN Summit is 1 of 2 annual regular meetings of ASEAN leaders in 2026, an important opportunity for leaders of countries to share and comprehensively assess the world and regional situation, unify strategic orientations and measures to strengthen ASEAN cooperation.
The Philippines proposed that this Summit focus on exchanging 3 contents on ensuring energy security, food security, and protection of ASEAN citizens; at the same time, affirming to continue to promote the implementation of strategic focuses and priorities on strengthening intra-bloc linkages, enhancing resilience, strategic autonomy and ASEAN's central role, maintaining momentum for building the Community according to the goals and plans of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
In the spirit of proactiveness, positivity, sincerity and responsibility, the Vietnamese delegation will closely coordinate with the President of the Philippines and ASEAN countries to contribute to the overall success of the conference.
At the conference, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung will deliver important speeches, conveying the foreign policy message of the 14th Party Congress and Vietnam's views on ASEAN's priorities, making practical proposals to strengthen the process of building the ASEAN Community, contributing to strengthening ASEAN's resilience and response to fluctuations, especially the impacts of the Middle East situation, and exchanging regional and international issues of common concern.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister will have meetings and meetings with leaders of countries to promote bilateral cooperation and exchange issues of common concern.
