VNA reported that at 8:00 a.m. on January 9, the plane carrying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Vietnamese delegation arrived at Wattay International Airport, Vientiane, to begin a visit to Laos and co-chair the 47th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee, from January 9-10, 2025, at the invitation of Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Sonexay Siphandone.
Welcoming Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Vietnamese delegation at Wattay International Airport on the Lao and ASEAN sides were Minister and Head of the Lao Prime Minister's Office Buakhong Nammavong; Lao Deputy Foreign Minister Phonsavan Sisoulath; leaders of the capital Vientiane, Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Khamphao Ernthavanh, officials of the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs; on the Vietnamese side were Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam, Vietnamese representative agencies, officials and staff of the Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Laos.
During the working trip, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone are expected to co-chair the 47th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee and co-chair the Laos-Vietnam Investment Cooperation Conference.
Along with that, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will have talks and meetings with the highest-ranking leaders of Laos; meet former high-ranking leaders of Laos; work with leaders of a number of Lao agencies and attend joint events between Vietnam and Laos.
The visit aims to implement the results achieved at the meeting of the two Politburoes in September 2024; coordinate good preparations for the meeting between the heads of the three ruling parties of Cambodia - Laos - Vietnam in 2025 and major events in the relations between the two countries and each country.
The two sides will discuss measures to enhance political and foreign cooperation; promote security and defense cooperation; promote economic, trade and investment, education and culture cooperation; especially promote economic ties between the two countries through transport and business connections, and effectively implement key cooperation projects between the two countries.
