Promoting the Vietnam - Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to become increasingly deeper

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung emphasized that Thailand is a close neighbor, an important partner and a companion of Vietnam.

On the afternoon of August 6, at the Government Headquarters, Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung met with Chairman of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Thailand Sophon Zaram who is on an official visit to Vietnam.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung warmly welcomed National Assembly Chairman Sophon Zaram and the high-level delegation of the Thai National Assembly on an official visit to Vietnam; affirming that the visit is of particular importance as it takes place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand (August 6, 1976 - August 6, 2026), contributing to consolidating political trust, strengthening cooperation between the two National Assemblies as well as promoting the Vietnam - Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to become increasingly deep, substantive and effective.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Thailand is a close neighbor, an important partner and a companion of Vietnam, sharing many strategic values and interests; affirming that the two countries always coordinate closely to promote ASEAN's central role, promote sub-Mekong cooperation and make positive contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region as well as in the world.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated the role and positive contributions of the Thai Parliament in promoting bilateral relations, believing that the visit will open up new impetus for cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries as well as the effective implementation of high-level agreements.

Thai National Assembly Chairman Sophon Zaram expressed his pleasure at his first official visit to Vietnam; thanked the Party, State and people of Vietnam for their respectful and warm reception; affirmed the importance of traditional friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam.

The Speaker of the Thai National Assembly highly appreciated the socio-economic development achievements of Vietnam as well as the process of streamlining Vietnam's apparatus in the past time; emphasized that Thailand is interested and wishes to refer to Vietnam's experience.

The Speaker of the Thai National Assembly expressed his belief that the cooperative relationship between the two countries will continue to develop strongly in all fields, especially after the official visit to Thailand by General Secretary and President To Lam in May 2026 and the official visit to Vietnam by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in June 2026.

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the positive developments of Vietnam-Thailand relations in recent times. The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is being strongly implemented with increasingly strengthened political trust through visits, high-level contacts and bilateral cooperation mechanisms; defense-security cooperation continues to be an important pillar; economic, trade, investment, science-technology, culture, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges are constantly expanding, bringing many practical benefits to people and businesses of the two countries.

The two leaders agreed to continue to strengthen political trust through maintaining high-level and high-level contacts; promote the effectiveness of important cooperation mechanisms, especially the mechanism of the Joint Cabinet meeting co-chaired by the Prime Ministers of the two countries; coordinate to effectively implement the Action Program to implement the Vietnam - Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the period 2026 - 2031 with specific results in the fields of defense, security, economy, science, technology, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

The two sides also agreed to continue to maintain the effectiveness of defense and security cooperation mechanisms; strengthen cooperation on maritime security and safety, defense industry, logistics, military medicine, rescue and relief, border management; promote coordination in preventing and combating transnational crimes, especially drug crimes, human trafficking and online fraud; resolutely not allow any individuals or organizations to use the territory of one country against another.

The two leaders agreed to promote the substantive implementation of the "Three Connections" Strategy, strengthen the connection of supply chains, businesses, localities and sustainable development strategies; effectively exploit the East-West Economic Corridor and the Southern Economic Corridor; expand the connection of road, air and sea transport; encourage businesses of the two countries to expand investment; promote the effectiveness of the Vietnam-Thailand Joint Trade Committee mechanism, striving to soon achieve the bilateral trade turnover target of 25 billion USD, towards 50 billion USD in a balanced and sustainable direction.

The Prime Minister requested the National Assemblies of the two countries to continue to strengthen delegation exchanges, share legislative and supervisory experiences, promote their role in supporting and promoting cooperation between the two countries, and at the same time promote the role of a bridge between localities, contributing to promoting investment, trade, culture, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges, thereby consolidating the foundation of long-term friendship between the two nations.

Exchanging views on regional and international issues, the two Leaders agreed to continue to closely coordinate at multilateral forums and Mekong sub-region cooperation mechanisms, closely coordinate to strengthen intra-bloc solidarity, maintain ASEAN's central role; promote ASEAN's common position on the East Sea, ensure peace, stability, security, safety, freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea on the basis of international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

The Speaker of the Thai National Assembly highly appreciated the contributions of the Vietnamese community in Thailand in socio-economic development in localities, making an important contribution to strengthening cooperation, people-to-people exchanges and political trust between the two countries.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung requested Thailand to continue to pay attention to and create conditions for the Vietnamese community in Thailand to live stably, and continue to make positive contributions to Thailand's development process as well as Vietnam-Thailand relations.

The two Leaders expressed their belief that with high political determination and close coordination between the agencies of the two countries, the Vietnam - Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will continue to develop more and more substantively and effectively, meeting the interests of the people of the two countries, and at the same time making positive contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and in the world.
