General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife observed a minute of silence in memory of Cuban national hero Jose Marti.

Vietnam News Agency reported that within the framework of his State visit to Cuba, on the afternoon of September 26 (local time), General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, laid a wreath at the Monument of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti.

Also attending the memorial service were Comrade Roberto Morales Ojeda, Politburo member, Permanent Secretary of the Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of Cuba, members of the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation and leaders of several Cuban ministries and agencies.

The memorial ceremony took place solemnly with the presence of the Honor Guard of the Cuban revolutionary armed forces.

After the flag-raising ceremony of the two countries, with majestic music, the memorial wreath was placed in a solemn position at the foot of the monument by soldiers in the ceremonial team.

Next, the General Secretary, the President and his wife were invited to the position of honor and observed a minute of silence in memory of the Cuban national hero, who sowed the seeds of friendship between the two brotherly countries half a world apart when, at the end of the 19th century, he wrote the famous essay "A walk on the land of the Annamese" published in the Tuoi Vang magazine, in which he praised the Vietnamese people's tradition of patriotism and indomitable resistance to foreign invaders.

Afterwards, the General Secretary, President and his wife also visited the Jose Marti Memorial House in the Revolution Square and heard about the life and career of the outstanding hero of the Cuban people.

Here, the Vietnamese guests also witnessed special Cuban art performances by children.

The Jose Marti Memorial is located on a hill in the center of Havana. It consists of a five-pointed star-shaped tower. In the center of the memorial is a large statue of Marti, surrounded by six columns and gardens.

The 109m high tower in the Memorial was designed by a team of architects led by Raoul Otero de Galarraga. It is also a famous tourist destination in the capital city of La Habana. Tourists can climb the Monument and enjoy a panoramic view of the beautiful coastal city of La Habana.
