General Secretary and President To Lam arrives in Havana, Cuba

This is Comrade To Lam's first visit to Cuba as General Secretary and President.

According to VNA, at 9:45 p.m. on September 25 local time (morning of September 26 Hanoi time), General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam, arrived at Jose Marti International Airport in the capital city of Havana, beginning a state visit to the Republic of Cuba at the invitation of First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez and his wife.

Welcoming General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife along with the high-ranking delegation of our country at Jose Marti airport, on the Cuban side were Politburo member Roberto Morales Ojeda - Permanent member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba; Alvaro Lopez Miera - Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, Lazaro Alberto Alvarez Casas - Minister of Home Affairs; Emilio Lozada Garcia - Head of Foreign Affairs of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.

Also present were Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen and a number of officials from the Foreign Affairs Department and the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On the Vietnamese side, there were Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba.

The honor guard stood on both sides of the red carpet, the national flags of the two countries fluttering to welcome General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife, along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to the heroic free island in the middle of the Caribbean Sea.

This is Comrade To Lam's first visit to Cuba as General Secretary and President, and Cuba is one of the first countries that Comrade General Secretary and President To Lam has visited.

Taking place in the context of the two countries celebrating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (December 2, 1960 - December 2, 2025), the visit is a testament to the traditional solidarity and special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba that has always been considered a valuable asset that has been nurtured by the Party, State and People of the two countries, while demonstrating Vietnam's high regard for Cuba and Cuba's position in Vietnam's foreign policy.

In an interview with the press ahead of the visit, Party Central Committee Secretary and Head of Central External Relations Le Hoai Trung said that through the visit, Vietnam affirmed its desire to continue inheriting and promoting the valuable legacy of relations between the two countries, on the solid foundation pioneered by President Ho Chi Minh and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.

During the visit, General Secretary and President To Lam is expected to attend the official welcoming ceremony; hold talks and meetings with key Cuban leaders; lay flowers at the statues of President Ho Chi Minh and Cuban national hero Jose Marti; visit a number of economic establishments, including those with cooperation and investment projects of Vietnamese enterprises; and meet with friends and young generations of the two countries.
