On the afternoon of November 30, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received Brunei King Darussalam Haji Hassanal Bolkiah on a state visit to Vietnam.
General Secretary To Lam warmly welcomed the Brunei King back to visit Vietnam for the seventh time, believing that this visit will promote the increasingly substantial and effective development of the Vietnam - Brunei Comprehensive Partnership.
The General Secretary highly appreciated the great achievements that Brunei has made in building and developing the country, especially good economic growth and social security guaranteed with the human development index classified as "very high" in the world; wished Brunei to successfully implement the National Development Vision to 2035.
King Haji Hassanal Bolkiah is delighted to visit Vietnam again since 2019 and wishes to further promote the Comprehensive Partnership between Brunei and Vietnam.
The King also sent his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and visited people in areas affected by floods and landslides.
The two leaders expressed their satisfaction with the good development of the Vietnam - Brunei Comprehensive Partnership in recent times: regular high-level and all-level contacts; bilateral trade turnover in 2024 increased by 165% compared to 2023, completing the target of reaching 500 million USD in 2025 ahead of schedule; cooperation in the fields of national defense - security, aquaculture, oil and gas, education... has many positive results.
Discussing the orientation of cooperation in the coming time, the two leaders agreed to enhance political trust; promote and facilitate trade and investment activities, enhance connections, support businesses in exchanging information and finding partners; effectively exploit the potential for cooperation between the two countries in other fields such as agriculture, aquaculture, Halal, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchange...
The General Secretary suggested promoting marine cooperation, including the prevention of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and climate change response.

The King emphasized that Vietnam is an important trade partner, and wishes to promote cooperation in the fields of agriculture, rice and Halal, encourage Vietnamese enterprises to expand cooperation in the oil and gas industry, and enhance people-to-people exchanges through scholarship and training programs.
At the same time, the two sides pledged to continue to coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums, especially ASEAN and the United Nations; strengthen solidarity, unity and maintain ASEAN's central role in the region; promote cooperation on regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issue.
On this occasion, the King of Brunei respectfully invited General Secretary To Lam to visit Brunei at an appropriate time. The General Secretary thanked and happily accepted.
