According to VNA, on the occasion of the State visit to the Republic of Indonesia and an official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat from March 9-11, General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, visited the Embassy and met with officials of representative agencies and the Vietnamese community in Indonesia.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong reported to the General Secretary about the results of the Embassy's work, the situation of bilateral relations between Vietnam and Indonesia and the work for the Vietnamese community in the area.
The Ambassador said that the Vietnamese community in Indonesia currently has more than 500 people, stable life, solidarity, helping each other to rise up, comply with the law and integrate well with the local society.
Although the number of overseas Vietnamese is still modest, in the community, there have been some representatives of Vietnamese enterprises that have successfully built Vietnamese brands, making their mark with the local market, while some overseas Vietnamese are working for international and regional organizations such as the ASEAN Secretariat, the ASEAN and East Asia Economic Research Institute (ERIA).
Ambassador and Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to ASEAN Ton Thi Ngoc Huong emphasized the historical significance of General Secretary To Lam's visit to the ASEAN Secretariat on the occasion of Vietnam's 30th anniversary of ASEAN membership; reported on the situation of ASEAN cooperation and Vietnam's participation in ASEAN. In 3 decades of participating in ASEAN, Vietnam has always performed well as an active, proactive and responsible member.
On behalf of the Vietnamese community in Indonesia, some community representatives expressed their honor to meet General Secretary To Lam, expressing their pride and emotion when witnessing the strong development of the country in all aspects.
The community representatives believe that Vietnam's increasingly high position in the international arena is a motivation to motivate each child abroad to be more confident and attached to their roots, and at the same time thank the Party and State for their attention to the Vietnamese community abroad in general and in Indonesia in particular.

At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam expressed his joy and emotion at the warm and affectionate atmosphere of his homeland, and kindly visited the people, staff of the Embassy, Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to ASEAN, and representatives of the community, businesses and Vietnamese students in Indonesia.
The General Secretary welcomed and highly appreciated the efforts of the Vietnamese community in Indonesia, although not as large as in some other countries, but always working hard, doing successful business, and making many positive contributions to the local society.
The General Secretary affirmed that the Party and State always pay attention to the overseas Vietnamese community in general and the Vietnamese community in Indonesia in particular; consider the community an inseparable part, an important resource of the nation.
The policies of the Party and State have been concretized and implemented in caring for the overseas Vietnamese community, supporting people to have a solid legal status, stabilize their lives, and integrate into the local society.
The General Secretary said that in upcoming talks with the Indonesian side, he will suggest that the friend side continue to facilitate the Vietnamese community to live, study, work and integrate actively, responsibly, contributing to the development of the host country and the relationship between the two countries.
Also on this occasion, General Secretary To Lam had a quick meeting with representatives of the Vietnamese Delegation to ASEAN.
