General Secretary To Lam asked about temporary and dilapidated houses along canals in Ho Chi Minh City

HCMC - General Secretary To Lam emphasized that a civilized and modern HCMC cannot let pressing problems such as temporary and dilapidated houses along canals and ditches continue.

On the morning of June 18, General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Central working delegation had a working session with the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, the Standing Committee of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Party Committee and the Standing Committee of the Binh Duong Provincial Party Committee.

Concluding the conference, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that the establishment of Ho Chi Minh City with three leading developed localities has opened a completely new stage of development.

The new Ho Chi Minh City is not only the largest economic, cultural and financial center in the country, but also one of the urban, financial, industrial and seaport areas with the highest development density in Southeast Asia. No city in Southeast Asia is as large-scale as the new Ho Chi Minh City - General Secretary To Lam emphasized.

In his speech, General Secretary To Lam asked the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City: Are you considering temporary and dilapidated houses running along canals, ditches, and riverbanks right in the heart of the city, very polluted, unsightly, and people living miserably as temporary and dilapidated houses that need to be eliminated and supported like projects in many mountainous provinces? What is the solution? Should a solution be proposed in the Resolution of the 12th Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress?

"Recently, we have experience with the Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal renovation project, now we have to expand that. A civilized, modern Ho Chi Minh City cannot allow such pressing problems to exist. Surely, people also have many recommendations. Such scenes of daily life are very frustrating" - General Secretary To Lam said.

Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee a project to renovate houses on and along rivers, canals, and ditches for the period 2025 - 2030.

According to the project, Ho Chi Minh City currently has 398 rivers, canals and ditches that have not been renovated and distributed in 16 districts, towns and Thu Duc City (including Districts 4, 6, 7, 8, 12, Binh Thanh, Go Vap, Tan Binh, Tan Phu, Binh Tan; Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, Cu Chi, Nha Be, Can Gio districts and Thu Duc City).

The total scale of relocation in these areas is estimated at about 39,600 houses.

Ho Chi Minh City aims to basically complete the relocation and resettlement of people living on and along rivers, canals and ditches by 2030.
