On the afternoon of February 20th (local time), General Secretary To Lam left Andrews military airport, ending his participation in the Opening Meeting of the Gaza Peace Council in Washington D.C (USA) from February 18th - 20th at the invitation of US President Donald Trump, Chairman of the Gaza Peace Council.
Seeing off General Secretary To Lam and the delegation at Andrews military airport were: Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Nguyen Quoc Dung; Ambassador, Head of the Vietnamese Mission to the United Nations Do Hung Viet; Vietnamese Consul General in San Francisco Hoang Anh Tuan; Vietnamese Consul General in Houston Hoang Thuy Duong; and officials and staff of the Embassy.
Attending the Opening Meeting of the Peace Council on Gaza were heads and leaders of more than 50 countries, who are founding members and observers of the Peace Council.
Speaking at the meeting, US President Donald Trump - Chairman of the Peace Council on Gaza - highly appreciated General Secretary To Lam's participation in the conference, affirming his deep respect for Vietnam, an admirable country with increasingly large roles and influences. This shows that Vietnam's international prestige is constantly being consolidated, and our country's capacity to build peace is recognized and respected by major powers and international friends.
During the time attending the Opening Meeting of the Peace Council on Gaza, General Secretary To Lam had meetings and exchanges with the President of Indonesia, the President of Uzbekistan, the President of Azerbaijan, the President of Kazakhstan, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, the Prime Minister of Armenia, the Prime Minister of Hungary, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic...
General Secretary To Lam met with US President Donald Trump. At the meeting, President Trump expressed his love for the Vietnamese people and General Secretary To Lam personally. President Trump reiterated the US commitment to supporting a "strong, independent, self-reliant, prosperous" Vietnam.
General Secretary To Lam received the US Trade Representative, Ambassador Jamieson Greer; received Mr. Kurt M. Campbell, former US Deputy Secretary of State. At phone calls with Senators in the US, General Secretary To Lam affirmed Vietnam's commitment to continue to fully and responsibly cooperate with the US side in searching for missing US soldiers in the war. Appreciating and thanking Vietnam for its active and responsible cooperation in searching for missing US soldiers, Senators affirmed that the US Congress and Government will continue to closely coordinate with Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of the war.
General Secretary To Lam witnessed the signing and awarding of contracts and cooperation agreements in key areas such as science and technology, digital transformation, aviation and healthcare. The total value of the awarded documents amounted to 37.2 billion USD, demonstrating the strong and drastic commitments of partners in the context of the two countries' relations entering a new period of development.
Meeting with the Vietnamese community in the US and officials of Vietnamese representative agencies in the US, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that the Party and State always welcome and create favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese experts, intellectuals, scientists, and entrepreneurs to contribute more to the cause of national development, especially in key areas in the new development stage of the country.
