On February 13, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received US Assistant Secretary of State Michael DeSombre on the occasion of his official visit to Vietnam.
Assistant Secretary of State DeSombre respectfully thanked the General Secretary for taking the time to receive him, expressed his honor to visit Vietnam and conveyed President Donald Trump's congratulations to General Secretary To Lam on the occasion of being re-elected as General Secretary and the success of the XIV Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
General Secretary To Lam shared that the 14th Party Congress was a great success, a milestone opening a new development path for Vietnam.
General Secretary To Lam respectfully conveyed his thanks to US President Donald Trump for sending a congratulatory letter to the General Secretary on the success of the 14th Party Congress.
General Secretary To Lam welcomed the visit of Assistant Secretary of State DeSombre and highly appreciated the role of the US State Department in promoting the positive development momentum of Vietnam-US relations in the past time.
The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam always considers the US as one of the top important partners, ready to strengthen extensive cooperation in all fields, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, making positive contributions to peace, stability and prosperity of the region as well as the world.
General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Vietnam will continue to consistently implement the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization, diversification of foreign relations, being a responsible member, ready to make positive contributions to regional and international issues.
US Assistant Secretary of State shared that President Trump appreciates and highly appreciates General Secretary To Lam's acceptance of participating in the Peace Council initiative in Gaza.
Mr. DeSombre affirmed that the US values the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam, supports a strong, independent and prosperous Vietnam; and wishes to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam at the strategic level in both bilateral relations and international and regional issues.
Assistant Secretary of State DeSombre expressed gratitude and highly appreciated the results of working sessions with Vietnamese agencies, ministries, and sectors during the visit, affirming that he will continue to contribute to promoting substantive development of Vietnam-US relations in the coming time.
