According to information from Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Company No. 1 (HURC), General Secretary To Lam's visit took place suddenly, without any prior preparation or solemn welcoming ceremony.

General Secretary To Lam, Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Nguyen Van Nen and the delegation of senior leaders appeared at Ben Thanh Station (District 1), directly boarded the train to experience reality and chat with passengers.

Metro Line 1 is the first urban railway project in Ho Chi Minh City, officially put into commercial operation from December 22, 2024.

The route is 19.7km long, connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with Thu Duc City, passing through Districts 1, Binh Thanh, and Thu Duc City.

After 30 days of free experience, from January 21, 2025, Metro Line 1 will start collecting passenger fees. After nearly two months of operation, Metro Line 1 has organized 11,776 trains, transporting 4.6 million passengers, reaching 194% of the plan.

According to the plan, Ho Chi Minh City will hold the official inauguration ceremony of Metro Line 1 on March 9.

Recently, the National Assembly has just passed a Resolution to pilot a number of specific mechanisms and policies to develop the urban railway system in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the project to develop the urban railway system of Ho Chi Minh City, the city plans to complete an additional 355km of urban railway from now until 2035, aiming to meet the goal of public passenger transport to meet 40-50% of travel needs.

In the next 10 years, the city will continue to expand the network by 155km, bringing the total length of the metro to 510km.
