On the morning of March 19, together with the whole country, Nghe An organized the simultaneous groundbreaking ceremony of 11 inter-level boarding primary and secondary schools in border communes. At the bridge point of Thong Thu commune, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc and leaders of Nghe An province attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
Specifically, Thong Thu Inter-level Boarding Primary - Secondary School has a total investment of more than 238 billion VND, built on an area of 5ha with a scale of 30 classrooms, expected to meet the learning and living needs of more than 1,000 students in the area and neighboring communes.

Thong Thu is a border commune in western Nghe An, where students are mainly children of ethnic minorities Thai and Kho Mu. Currently, the whole commune has 5 general schools including: 2 semi-boarding ethnic minority secondary schools Thong Thu, Dong Van; Thong Thu 1 Primary School, Thong Thu 2 Primary School and Dong Van Primary School.
According to the plan, when the inter-level boarding school is completed, students from these 5 schools will be arranged to study and live centrally. Thong Thu 1 Primary School is expected to be converted to a semi-boarding model, suitable for the locality with many villages far from the center.
Investing in boarding schools is expected to fundamentally solve the situation of students going to school far away, lacking living conditions, especially during the rainy and flood season.
Having a child in 6th grade, Ms. Luong Thi Hoa (resident of Muong Piet village, Thong Thu commune) said that her children's schooling has long been difficult due to the long distance.
“The house is far from school, the roads are hard to travel, especially in the rainy season. If there is a boarding school, children can eat and stay at school, so studying will be much more convenient,” Ms. Hoa shared.
Mr. Bui Ngoc Thanh - Principal of Thong Thu Secondary School - said that the construction of inter-level boarding schools is an important step for education in border areas.
With a spacious boarding school, children will be guaranteed better conditions for eating, living, and studying. Teachers are also assured to be attached for a long time, thereby improving the quality of education, contributing to changing awareness and life for children of ethnic minorities," Mr. Thanh said.
According to the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, the whole province is expected to invest in 21 inter-level boarding schools in border communes with more than 1,029 classes, serving over 39,000 students, of which more than 30,000 students are boarding.
Previously, in 2025, Nghe An started construction of 10 inter-level boarding schools. Currently, many projects have completed over 70% of the ground leveling volume, and some points are moving to the foundation construction phase.
Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Thai Van Thanh said that the province aims to complete the projects before September 2026 to be put into use in the new school year, meeting the learning needs of students in border areas.
Building an inter-level boarding school system not only improves the quality of education but also contributes to retaining residents, developing human resources and ensuring social security in border areas.
