At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam on the afternoon of September 19, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang informed that on September 19, the Prime Minister signed Official Dispatch No. 98 directing the focus on responding to the tropical depression that is likely to strengthen into a storm and floods, focusing on implementing key tasks to respond decisively and effectively to storm No. 4 (international name Soulik) currently making landfall.
"Following the direction of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnamese representative agencies in China and some neighboring areas have urgently worked with local authorities to update information about storm Soulik and request local authorities to support Vietnamese boats and fishermen at sea who cannot return to the mainland to take shelter and avoid the storm," said Ms. Pham Thu Hang.
The spokesperson added that the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs also sent a diplomatic note to the diplomatic representative agencies of other countries in Hanoi to closely coordinate information and promptly report to the country to take necessary support measures in case Vietnamese fishermen or boats need urgent rescue.
Also at the press conference, providing information about the support and sharing of the international community and the overseas Vietnamese community after storm No. 3 Yagi, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang emphasized that the support and contributions of the international community to Vietnam are very valuable.
Recently, to express solidarity and share the losses and sympathize with the damage to people and property of the Government and people of Vietnam in general, and the authorities and people of the northern provinces and cities heavily affected by storm No. 3, many countries and international organizations have sent letters and telegrams of condolences to Vietnam as well as directly and indirectly supported financial resources, equipment for accommodation, rescue, essential supplies, and experts for Vietnam to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3 as soon as possible.
Ms. Pham Thu Hang added that, in the spirit of mutual love and support as well as the appeal of domestic authorities, the Vietnamese community in the country as well as the Vietnamese community abroad have donated money, equipment and necessary necessities to directly and indirectly send to people in provinces and cities affected by storm No. 3, helping people to soon stabilize their lives.
So far, the overseas Vietnamese community has directly donated and supported 13 billion VND and will continue to donate more to support localities and people.
