On January 22, 2025, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang responded to a reporter's question asking for Vietnam's stance on the Seoul Court of Appeals (South Korea) upholding its ruling, requiring the South Korean government to compensate more than 30 million won (20,000 USD) to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh, who lost her family in the Quang Nam massacre in 1968.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated: "Vietnam welcomes the recent ruling of the Seoul Court of Appeals, a ruling that reflects historical truth, contributing to realizing the spirit of "putting the past behind, looking toward the future."
"With this viewpoint, Vietnam wishes to work with Korea to further develop the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries; take practical actions to overcome the consequences of war, contributing to consolidating and enhancing the friendship and good cooperative relations between the two countries and peoples," said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang.
