As the symbolic Marathon of Hanoi Capital, this is not only an opportunity for athletes to compete but also a journey of steadfast and strong sportsmanship. As part of the series of activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Capital, the 3rd season has honored historical and cultural values while contributing to connecting the community and spreading the sportsmanship, humanistic meaning and solidarity.
To create a truly engaging and inspiring playground for the community, the organizing committee of the Techcombank Hanoi International Marathon has affirmed its professionalism in organization and operation over the years. In its third season, the race has attracted more than 10,000 athletes participating in 4 distances: Marathon (42.195km), Half Marathon (21.097km), 10km and 5km. In particular, the 2024 season has affirmed its position as a professional Marathon when attracting more than 4,000 athletes to participate in the Marathon and Half Marathon distances, accounting for nearly 50% of the total number of athletes participating in the race. Of which, there are more than 200 international athletes from 42 countries and territories participating. At the same time, within the framework of season 3, during the opening period from September 20 to September 22, Marathon Village 2024 welcomed more than 20,000 athletes and visitors to nearly 20 exhibition booths.
This year's season has witnessed many records and outstanding individual achievements. In the first moments of the finish line of the 3rd Techcombank Hanoi International Marathon, Athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh with a time of 02:44:19, officially broke the national marathon record, winning the first prize for women in the Marathon distance (42.195 km). With stable performance, Athlete Le Thi Tuyet (Vietnam) finished second with a time of 2:49:54. Athlete Pham Thi Hong Le (Vietnam) won third place, completing the race with a time of 3:00:17. In the Men's Marathon distance, Athlete Edwin Kiptoo (Kenya) affirmed his class when he finished first with a time of 2:30:31. Close behind, Athlete Rono Japhet (Kenya) finished second in a tense chase with a time of 2:30:39. Athlete Chirchir Stephen Kipkosgei (Kenya) won third place with a time of 2:32:27, contributing to a thrilling and exciting race. In the end, the Organizing Committee awarded 25 out of 94 individual awards to outstanding athletes. This is proof that Vietnamese sports are increasingly raising their position in the international arena.
Immediately after receiving the award, Athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh - Female Marathon Champion burst into emotion: I am very proud and moved to break the national marathon record at the Techcombank Hanoi International Marathon season 3. This is the result of a process of continuous training efforts. The Techcombank Hanoi International Marathon has created a breakthrough momentum for all athletes to reach further to new distances, new milestones, new achievements.
