In the context of the global energy market potentially facing many fluctuations due to the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, the completion of Vietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS) to increase the reprocessing capacity of Thi Vai LNG Storage to 288 tons/hour, not only meets the demand for gas supply for dry season power generation but also affirms its proactive and flexible capacity in ensuring domestic supply, contributing to ensuring national energy security.
Improving infrastructure capacity, ready for the peak dry season
On April 2, 2026, the Logistics Branch - a unit directly under PV GAS - coordinated with relevant parties to complete the trial run program to increase the reprocessing capacity of Thi Vai LNG Storage, after implementation phases on March 18-19 and April 1-2, 2026.
The results showed that the system operated safely and stably at 288 tons/hour (compared to the initial designed capacity of 171 tons/hour), equivalent to about 9.5 million Sm3/day, meeting technical requirements and operating conditions.
The entire system has been inspected and evaluated according to Vietnamese and international standards, with the supervision of the DNV registration organization.
The capacity increase helps PV GAS significantly increase its gas supply capacity, ready to meet the mobilization needs for power plants according to the schedule of the National Power System and Market Operator Company (NSMO) during the peak dry season.
Affirming the ability to master technology and operate LNG
Operating Thi Vai LNG Storage stably at a higher capacity than the initial design requires high technical level and operating experience. Throughout the trial run, PV GAS's team of officials and engineers maintained continuous 24/7 monitoring, ensuring strict control of key operating parameters such as temperature, pressure, vibration and equipment positioning.

Increasing the capacity of Thi Vai LNG Storage is of strategic significance in the context of a potentially risky global energy supply chain. This infrastructure continues to play an important role in the gas supply chain, contributing to ensuring a stable fuel source for electricity production in the Southeast region.

With an increasingly complete infrastructure platform, affirmed operating capacity and flexible adaptability, PV GAS continues to play a core role in Vietnam's gas industry, contributing to firmly ensuring national energy security and meeting the increasing energy demand of the economy.
