After debates surrounding singer Le Quyen responding to negative comments with swearing words, causing controversy on social networks, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports has issued a view related to the behavior of artists on social networks.
On the afternoon of January 15, at a regular press conference on the socio-economic situation of Ho Chi Minh City, representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports said that they had received information reflecting the incident and are coordinating with functional units to consider and handle it according to regulations. According to the Department's leaders, the incident is seen in the overall regulations on standards of conduct for artists, especially in the social network environment.
Representatives of the Department cited the Code of Conduct on social networks, promulgated in 2021, and the Code of Conduct for people working in the arts, which emphasizes the responsibility of artists to the public. These regulations require artists to respect the audience, absorb constructive opinions, and maintain personal image associated with professional reputation and social influence.
From a legal perspective, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports also noted that the current Law on Network Security clearly stipulates prohibited acts in cyberspace, including the use of language that insults the honor, dignity and reputation of others. This is the basis for management agencies to consider responsibility in cases of statements causing mixed reactions in public opinion.
Regarding the incident, in recent days, social networks have seen many different opinions surrounding Le Quyen's behavior when responding to negative comments. Some opinions suggest that artists need to remain calm and standard in their statements, while others express sympathy for the pressure that celebrities face from offensive opinions in cyberspace.
Singer Le Quyen's side later also spoke up to explain that she did not lose control and only reacted within the limit of endurance to words that she considered harsh and unreasonable.
According to representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, artists need to be aware of their role and influence, thereby choosing a civilized and appropriate way of behaving.
Respect for the audience is the foundation for artists to maintain their image and long-term career," the Department representative emphasized, while affirming that management agencies will continue to monitor and handle the case in accordance with legal regulations.
